ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION GUIDELINE

Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary has as her main purpose the formation of future priests, and the candidates admitted are for that purpose (cf. The Seminary Charter for Priestly Formation, p.28). Each candidate seeking admission must express his intention or desire to become a priest in his application to which he must attach his academic credentials (as outlined below) and a genuine copy of his sacramental certificate which indicates the records of his reception of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation, namely; Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The admission of candidates is done by the Joint Admissions Board of the Rectors of the Philosophica under the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) assisted by their Teaching Formation Staff on the recommendation of the Competent Diocesan Authorities of the respective candidates (i.e. the Bishops and their respective Diocesan Vocations Directors). To qualify for admission, as far as academic qualifications are concerned, over and above the qualification framework for a Bachelor’s Degree as set by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE);

the entry requirements are as follows:

  1. A Primary Leaving Education (PLE) Certificate with at least Second Grade.
  2. An Ordinary Level (O’ Level) Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least six Credits (including in English) obtained in the same sitting, or its equivalent as certified by Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and NCHE or the Competent Body of the State as established by Law.
  3. An Advanced Level (A’ Level) Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two Principal Passes (in key subjects) and a Credit in General Paper obtained in the same sitting or its equivalent as certified by UNEB or NCHE or the Competent Body of the State as established by Law.
  4. An Ordinary Diploma for those students who may lack UCE or UACE or have deficiencies or lacunae in them.
